The El Torcal nature area features limestone formed by sediment on an ancient sea bed that was subsequently pushed up (after that happens the rock is called karst?). The softer parts have eroded, creating interesting shapes. It’s similar to the “pancake rocks” at Punakaiki in New Zealand.
